Hey everybody!ย Welcome to the Make or Break Shop Community.
We are makers of all types from around the world.ย Whether you work with wood, metal, digital fabrication, electronics, etc... this is a place to connect, learn and share the incredible things that you've made.ย Here are a few guidelines to make yourself at home:
- Fill your profile.ย Add a tag line (most people will pick they type of things they like to make), description, and links to your personal website, Instagram, etc.
- Introduce Yourself.ย Create a new topic in this channel and tell us about yourself!ย Just hit the button above (like the screenshot below)
- Start a build log.ย One of the easiest ways to get involved is to start a build log about what you're making in the Build Log Channel.ย Whether it's a year long dream project or something that will take a weekend, post it and ask questions and get feedback!
- Start or join a conversation.ย You can navigate the channels on the left hand side.ย These are similar to channels in Slack or Discord and are centered around a specific making subjects.ย If there is a channel you would like to add just let me know!
- Foster thoughtful conversations.ย While channels are similar to Slack and Discord this community isn't designed to be an avalanche of notifications, where you feel like you've got to read everything in real time to stay on top of it.ย The Make or Break community is designed to be asynchronous, slow and intentional conversations.ย I've taken huge inspirations from the old school forums on the past (some of my favorites are the R2 Builders Club, The Replica Prop Forum and Lumberjocks Forum)..but with an updated and fresh approach.
- Make it yours.ย This is your community. Got a question, suggestion or feedback?ย Want to organize a new interest group or host an event?ย Please share in the Feedback & Suggestions channel.
That's it!ย I can't wait to grow this community alongside you as we all learn how to become better makers.

Well I have to say, the changes to the personal use license really put a damper on things for me. Anyone have suggestions on programs that these skills translate fairly similarly?

Hello Community!ย I joined to learn more Fusion 360 and prior to the course I took the "ill figure it out approach".ย I think the parameters will be extremely useful knowledge and hope to attain 3D modeling expertise for projects I know I want to do.ย I have been learning Fusion for the past 6 months and have incorporated Vectric VCarve Pro in my learning as well
I have on order a CAMaster Stinger 3 X3 with indexing lathe.ย Hopefully taking on a variety of projects to get my business up and running. I was tired of sitting at a desk in a manufacturing facility.ย
Few Designs (few are finished and others not so much):

There is always another Mike around but rarely another Fink (unless its family)
Based out of Houston, TX from New Orleans, LA.ย Yes, I was wiped out by Hurricane Katrina.ย About 14 feet of water nudged me to learn more about general construction.
Day job is in Oil and Gas as a consultant.ย In a nutshell, an interpreter between technical people and non-technical people. I have tried to persuade my HR department that I am bilingualย (English and Tech)ย but have yet to succeed. ย
I have been making, fixing or building things for as long as I can remember.ย My dad used to hide the tools from me when I was a kid to keep me from taking apart everything.ย I like projects that include various skills whether it is woodworking, digital fab, metal fab or general construction.ย Rarely do I do the same project twice.
No really favorite makers but here is a short list from very large one thatย I find either entertaining or informative or both.

Hey!
So to answer the questions:
1. Where I'm based
Athens, Georgia.ย I was actually born in Alaska and grew up in Mississippi but now I live right outside of Atlanta in a college town.
2. The types of things I love to make.
So. Many. Things.ย
I honestly can't stick to one area.ย Everything started with table I for our new house I made from pocket holes and construction lumber.ย Then I started to get deeper and deeper into the world of woodworking and have since gotten more into digital tools (like lasers, 3d printers and CNC's) plus I just picked up my first welder!
You can see lots of my projects over on YouTube.
3. My main gig.
This is it!ย I went full time April of 2019.ย I build random stuff in my garage for a living and share it with you all.
4. My side gig
So making use to be my side gig, but I throw another in here.ย Back in the day I wrote and illustrated children's books.ย They are self published on Amazon, was a pretty fun way to have an excuse to draw.
5. Some of my favorite makers.
So this one is hard.ย I'm going to cheat and say everyone that I've had on the 100+ episodes of my interview podcast are favorites.
But if you were really pressing hard it would be:

- Laura Kampf - Just makes everything look so cool.
- Jimmy Diresta - Got to respect the Godfather.

Hey everybody, Dave here. I got into a bit of woodworking a couple years ago to build some simple projects for our house like a coffee table and shoe rack. Lately I've been mostly focused on shop projects to get myself organized better so I can work on creating more things. I also got into 3D printing lately.ย
One of the big projects that I've been sloooowly working on is a functional 737 cockpit to use with flight simulators. I'm still very much in the design phase on that and have only done a small bit of prototyping.ย

Hey all, new here and totally new to woodworking in general. I do have a bit of an understanding of 3D modelling but not much a concept of how that translates into real world making. Also brand new to Fusion so excited to dive in and start learning. I will no doubt bombard you with questions too. Apologies in advance!ย
