Hey everybody! Welcome to the Make or Break Shop Community.
We are makers of all types from around the world. Whether you work with wood, metal, digital fabrication, electronics, etc... this is a place to connect, learn and share the incredible things that you've made. Here are a few guidelines to make yourself at home:
- Fill your profile. Add a tag line (most people will pick they type of things they like to make), description, and links to your personal website, Instagram, etc.
- Introduce Yourself. Create a new topic in this channel and tell us about yourself! Just hit the button above (like the screenshot below)
- Start a build log. One of the easiest ways to get involved is to start a build log about what you're making in the Build Log Channel. Whether it's a year long dream project or something that will take a weekend, post it and ask questions and get feedback!
- Start or join a conversation. You can navigate the channels on the left hand side. These are similar to channels in Slack or Discord and are centered around a specific making subjects. If there is a channel you would like to add just let me know!
- Foster thoughtful conversations. While channels are similar to Slack and Discord this community isn't designed to be an avalanche of notifications, where you feel like you've got to read everything in real time to stay on top of it. The Make or Break community is designed to be asynchronous, slow and intentional conversations. I've taken huge inspirations from the old school forums on the past (some of my favorites are the R2 Builders Club, The Replica Prop Forum and Lumberjocks Forum)..but with an updated and fresh approach.
- Make it yours. This is your community. Got a question, suggestion or feedback? Want to organize a new interest group or host an event? Please share in the Feedback & Suggestions channel.
That's it! I can't wait to grow this community alongside you as we all learn how to become better makers.

Hey!
So to answer the questions:
1. Where I'm based
Athens, Georgia. I was actually born in Alaska and grew up in Mississippi but now I live right outside of Atlanta in a college town.
2. The types of things I love to make.
So. Many. Things.
I honestly can't stick to one area. Everything started with table I for our new house I made from pocket holes and construction lumber. Then I started to get deeper and deeper into the world of woodworking and have since gotten more into digital tools (like lasers, 3d printers and CNC's) plus I just picked up my first welder!
You can see lots of my projects over on YouTube.
3. My main gig.
This is it! I went full time April of 2019. I build random stuff in my garage for a living and share it with you all.
4. My side gig
So making use to be my side gig, but I throw another in here. Back in the day I wrote and illustrated children's books. They are self published on Amazon, was a pretty fun way to have an excuse to draw.
5. Some of my favorite makers.
So this one is hard. I'm going to cheat and say everyone that I've had on the 100+ episodes of my interview podcast are favorites.
But if you were really pressing hard it would be:

- Bob Clagett (I Like to Make Stuff) - He was the very first one I ran across on YouTube, has always been a big inspiration and have only grown to like the stuff from the ILTMS team even more as I've gotten to know them
- Laura Kampf - Just makes everything look so cool.
- Jimmy Diresta - Got to respect the Godfather.

So an R2D2 is a dream build for me. Right now I don't have the time (or money) to do the full thing. Instead I'm doing a scaled down version.
I had Brian from The Smugglers Room on my podcast a little while back and when he saw I built an X-Wing swing for my daughter he reached out and asked if he could send me a 2/3rd size R2D2 head for it.
I said yes so fast.
Since then I've been wanting to build out a body for it and integrate an Echo Dot with servo's for the head/lights/etc.
For the frame I pulled some plans from the R2D2 Builders club and created a scaled down version in Fusion. Now I just need to laser cut all the pieces out!

Hey I’m Leeroy,
Living and working on Sydney’s Northern beaches. I have a custom furniture business “Big Rock Timberworks” that I started in early 2018. Designing and making free standing and built in furniture.
I am also a professional firefighter going on 13 years, which gives me a little freedom within the business as a paycheck is only ever a fortnight away.
I’m very new to fusion 360 and have been finding it useful in my design process and especially to be able to give my customers a visual representation of the furniture they are commissioning.
Some of my favourite and most influential Woodworks are
Marc Spagnuolo (the wood whisperer)
Matt Cremona
Nick Pedulla
Phoebe Everill
Joey Chalk (Kingpost Timberworks)
Kuffys Woodshop
Phillip Morley
Peter Millard
Ishitani Furniture
I could keep going haha

Recently moved home to Maine, after a dozen years in San Francisco
I worked at two high end shops in California to improve on my skills, one was metal and wood the other was more of a cabinet shop. I hope to start my own small business here as a side hustle to my day to day (commercial real estate)
I'm in the planning stage of adding an addition to my workshop which will eventually allow me to get a 5x10 cnc. Have never owned my own, but used one quite a bit when I was member at the Techshop in SF. But it has been awhile.
Other than woodworking, I like to learn new things and play outside.
Love parametric modeling, but way too often I find myself stuck and can't find my way out.
Thanks again

We started the joinery side of things 4 years ago and now have a shop and CNC machine on the way from USA. (Avid CNC)
Favorite makers are Diresta, Jay Bates, Frank Howarth, Matthias wandel to name a few.
I'm interested in learning signage especially, as well as sharing all my complex cafe jobs we can get this CNC machine to do!
Im a newbie on the fusion/CNC so I will be picking all your brains haha
Looking forward to it 😊 stay safe

This is a general channel to chat about whatever you want! I'm planning on adding interesting stuff I find each week that would normally go into my newsletter as round ups for you to check out.

Giaco is back it with another awesome tool Kickstarter. I know a bunch of you already have his Maker Knife, and now it looks like we will be adding the Kinetic Driver.
I'll need to get him back on the podcast to chat about the development, so cool!
